Abedi Pele, born on November 5, 1964, in Sakassou, Ivory Coast, is a former professional footballer renowned for his exceptional skills and contributions to the sport. Primarily an attacking midfielder, he began his career with the local club Yéo Martial before moving to Marseille, where he achieved significant success. His time at Marseille from 1987 to 1994 was marked by three Ligue 1 titles and a UEFA Champions League trophy in 1993, making him a key figure in the club's history.
Internationally, Abedi Pele represented the Ghanaian national team, earning over 70 caps between 1982 and 1998. He played a vital role in leading Ghana to victory in the 1982 Africa Cup of Nations and was instrumental in the team’s performances during the 1990s. His leadership and skill on the field solidified his status as one of Africa's greatest footballers, earning him the African Player of the Year award three times (1991, 1992, and 1993).
