Abel Xavier, born on November 30, 1972, in Avelar, Portugal, is a former professional footballer known for his versatility as a defender and midfielder. He began his career with S.L. Benfica, making his debut in the Primeira Liga before moving on to play for several clubs across Europe, including PSV Eindhoven, where he won the Eredivisie title, and English Premier League teams such as Everton and Aston Villa.
Xavier earned 50 caps for the Portuguese national team between 1994 and 2002, participating in two UEFA European Championships and the 2002 FIFA World Cup. His performances in international competitions solidified his status as a key player for Portugal during a transformative period for the national team.
