Biography
Agnes Tirop, born on October 23, 1995, in Iten, Kenya, was a prominent long-distance runner specializing in the 5,000 meters. She gained international recognition for her exceptional performances on the track and as a cross-country athlete. Tirop began competing at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks, showcasing her talent with significant victories in various competitions.
Tirop made history by becoming the youngest world championship medalist in women's 10,000 meters in 2015, earning a bronze medal at the IAAF World Championships in Beijing. In addition, she clinched multiple titles, including the 2017 World Cross Country Championships and a silver medal in the 10,000 meters at the 2019 World Championships in Doha. Tirop also broke the women's only 10km road race world record in 2020, underlining her exceptional speed and endurance.
Tragically, Agnes Tirop's life was cut short when she was found dead on October 13, 2021, at the age of 25. Her untimely death shocked the athletics community and highlighted issues surrounding gender-based violence.
