Ajit Wadekar, born on April 1, 1941, in Bombay, India, was a prominent Indian cricketer and captain. A left-handed batsman and occasional left-arm orthodox spinner, he made his debut for the Indian national team in 1966. Wadekar is best remembered for leading India to its first Test series victories in the West Indies and England in 1971.
During his career, Wadekar was known for his solid batting technique and leadership skills, contributing significantly to India's rise in international cricket. He scored over 2,000 runs in Test matches, including three centuries, and was a vital part of the team during the early stages of its development under coach Gavaskar.
