Biography
Akim Aliu, born on April 24, 1989, in Okene, Nigeria, is a Canadian ice hockey player known for his impactful career in professional hockey and his advocacy for diversity and inclusion in the sport. He began his junior career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the London Knights, where he showcased his offensive abilities and garnered attention from NHL scouts. Aliu was selected in the second round, 56th overall, by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
Throughout his career, Aliu played for several teams in the NHL and minor leagues, including the Chicago Blackhawks, where he made his debut during the 2009-2010 season. He also had a notable stint in the American Hockey League (AHL), playing for teams such as the Rockford IceHogs and the Abbotsford Heat.
