Biography
Alexander Karpovtsev, born on April 7, 1970, in Dzerzhinsk, Russia, is a former professional ice hockey defenseman. He began his career in the Soviet league before transitioning to the National Hockey League (NHL) in the late 1990s. Karpovtsev was known for his strong two-way play and physical presence on the ice.
Karpovtsev was drafted in the 5th round, 128th overall, by the New York Rangers in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He achieved significant success in the NHL, including being a member of the 1994 Rangers team that won the Stanley Cup. His professional career also included stints with teams such as the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Chicago Blackhawks, amassing over 500 NHL games and several international appearances for the Russian national team.
After retiring from professional play, Karpovtsev continued to contribute to the sport by taking on various coaching and mentoring roles within the hockey community.
