August Belmont Jr. (February 18, 1853 – December 8, 1924) was a prominent American athlete and businessman known for his significant contributions to the world of thoroughbred horse racing. Born in New York City, Belmont Jr. was the son of August Belmont Sr., a successful banker and racehorse owner. Belmont Jr. was instrumental in the establishment of the Belmont Stakes, one of the three races that make up the Triple Crown of horse racing.
