Biography
Bandula Warnapura, born on March 1, 1953, in the Kegalle District of Sri Lanka, was a prominent cricketer known for his contributions to the sport during the late 20th century. Warnapura made his Test debut for the Sri Lankan national team in 1982, becoming one of the pioneers of Sri Lankan cricket at the international level. He played as a right-handed batsman and was recognized for his tenacity and skill.
Throughout his international career, Warnapura featured in 12 Test matches and 8 One Day Internationals (ODIs) from 1982 to 1984. He is particularly noted for captaining the Sri Lankan team in their inaugural ODI match in 1975, marking a significant milestone in the history of Sri Lankan cricket. His leadership and performance on the field helped lay the groundwork for the future success of Sri Lankan cricket.
After retiring from international cricket, Warnapura transitioned into coaching and administration, contributing to the development of cricket in Sri Lanka.
