Basil Jayawardene, born on December 29, 1963, is a former Sri Lankan cricketer renowned for his contributions to the sport during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Primarily a right-handed batsman, he made his Test debut for the Sri Lankan national team in 1985 and quickly established himself as a reliable player in the middle order. His domestic career was predominantly associated with the Colombo Cricket Club, where he showcased his talent before transitioning to international cricket.
Over his international career, Jayawardene played in 39 Test matches, scoring 1,107 runs at an average of 33.21, including one century and six half-centuries.
