Biography
Bill Cowher, born on May 8, 1957, in Crafton, Pennsylvania, is a former American football player and coach, best known for his tenure as the head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the National Football League (NFL). He played as a linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1979 to 1982 after being selected in the second round of the 1979 NFL Draft. Cowher transitioned to coaching in the mid-1980s, quickly rising through the ranks to become a prominent figure in the NFL.
As head coach of the Steelers from 1992 to 2006, Cowher led the team to significant success, highlighted by his victory in Super Bowl XL in 2005, which marked the franchise's fifth championship.
