William Orland Kilmer, commonly known as Billy Kilmer, was born on September 5, 1939, in Tucson, Arizona. He played college football at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he garnered attention as a versatile athlete. Kilmer was selected in the first round of the 1961 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, beginning his professional career in a league that was rapidly evolving.
Kilmer's NFL career spanned over 16 seasons, primarily with the New Orleans Saints and Washington Football Team (formerly known as the Redskins).
