Bob Lilly, born on July 26, 1939, in Athens, West Virginia, is a former professional American football player known for his exceptional career as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL). He played his entire career for the Dallas Cowboys, from 1961 to 1974, and is celebrated as one of the franchise's foundational players. Lilly was a key figure in the Cowboys' rise to prominence during the 1960s and 1970s, earning the nickname "Mr. Cowboy" for his on-field prowess and leadership.
