Bob Smyth is a retired professional basketball player known for his outstanding contributions to the sport during his career in the late 1970s and 1980s. Born on July 12, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, Smyth played college basketball at the University of Illinois, where he garnered All-American honors and helped lead his team to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. After going undrafted in the 1977 NBA Draft, he began his professional career in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) before signing with the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Smyth made his NBA debut with the Atlanta Hawks in the 1978-79 season. He quickly established himself as a reliable forward, known for his scoring ability and tenacious defense.
