Norman Julius "Boomer" Esiason, born on April 17, 1961, in East Islip, New York, is a former professional American football quarterback. Esiason attended the University of Maryland, where he set several school records before being selected by the Cincinnati Bengals as the 38th overall pick in the second round of the 1984 NFL Draft. Over his 14-season career in the National Football League (NFL), he played for the Bengals, New York Jets, Arizona Cardinals, and the Miami Dolphins.
Esiason's most notable achievements include being named the NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 1988, leading the Bengals to Super Bowl XXIII, and earning the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award in 1988.
