Calvin Murphy, born on May 9, 1948, in Norwalk, Connecticut, is a former professional basketball player known for his exceptional scoring ability and tenacity on the court. Standing at 5 feet 9 inches, he played primarily as a point guard and is considered one of the greatest undersized players in NBA history. Murphy gained prominence while playing college basketball at Niagara University, where he was a standout performer and earned All-American honors.
Drafted in 1970 by the San Diego Rockets, Murphy played 13 seasons in the NBA, spending the majority of his career with the Houston Rockets. He was a two-time NBA All-Star and earned All-NBA honors in 1977. Murphy was known for his outstanding free throw shooting, finishing his career with a percentage of 89.2%, ranking among the top free throw shooters in league history.
