Turning professional in 1985, he achieved notable success on both the ATP Tour and the Grand Prix circuit, where he became recognized for his powerful baseline game and competitive spirit.
Throughout his career, Gómez-Díaz secured one ATP singles title and reached a career-high singles ranking of No. 34 in March 1990.
