Charles Barnes was an Australian cricketer born on October 16, 1882, in Mullumbimby, New South Wales. He was a right-arm fast bowler and a right-handed batsman, known for his aggressive bowling style and ability to swing the ball. Barnes made his first-class debut for New South Wales in the 1907-08 season and quickly gained recognition for his exceptional talent on the field.
Throughout his career, Barnes played in 27 Tests for Australia between 1909 and 1926, taking 89 wickets at an average of 24.18. His notable achievements include being a key player during the Ashes series, where he contributed significantly to Australia's successes against England. He was particularly outstanding in the 1920-21 series, where he helped secure a decisive victory for Australia, marking a high point in his career.
