Charlie Waters, born on September 10, 1948, in Greeley, Colorado, is a former professional American football player who primarily played as a safety in the National Football League (NFL). Waters attended Colorado State University, where he showcased his talent as a versatile defensive player, ultimately earning consensus All-American honors. He was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the third round of the 1970 NFL Draft.
Waters spent his entire 12-season career (1970-1982) with the Dallas Cowboys, becoming a key figure in the team's defense during their dominant periods in the 1970s and early 1980s. He was a vital contributor to the Cowboys' success, participating in three Super Bowl appearances and winning two (Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII). His playing style was characterized by exceptional ball-hawking ability, leading to a total of 29 interceptions, which ranks him among the franchise's all-time leaders in that category.
Recognized for his contributions to the game, Waters was selected to the Pro Bowl twice during his career and was named a first-team All-Pro in 1977.
