Biography
Chet Kozel (October 15, 1919 – January 28, 2008) was an American football player who played as a halfback in the National Football League (NFL). Born in Mingo Junction, Ohio, he attended Ohio State University, where he made a significant impact on the college football scene. After gaining recognition for his athletic abilities, Kozel was selected by the Detroit Lions in the 1941 NFL Draft.
During his professional career, Kozel played four seasons with the Lions, contributing to the team’s offensive strategies with his speed and versatility. He was known for his ability to both run the ball and catch passes, making him a dual threat on the field. In 1943, he helped lead the Lions to an NFL Championship, solidifying his place in franchise history.
After his playing career, Kozel remained involved in football and mentored young athletes, leaving a lasting legacy in the sport.
