Dan Fouts, born on June 10, 1951, in San Francisco, California, is a former professional American football quarterback who played his entire career with the San Diego Chargers from 1973 to 1987. A standout at the University of Oregon, Fouts was selected by the Chargers in the third round of the 1973 NFL Draft. He quickly established himself as a premier quarterback, known for his strong arm and ability to read defenses.
Fouts gained national acclaim in the late 1970s and 1980s, leading the Chargers to multiple playoff appearances and earning his place among the NFL's elite quarterbacks. He was selected to six Pro Bowls and was named the NFL MVP in 1982, while also being a crucial part of the Chargers' high-octane offense, famously known as Air Coryell, which revolutionized passing in the league.
