Darryl Drake was born on December 11, 1956, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He played college football at the University of Louisville, where he emerged as a standout wide receiver, earning All-American honors. After a successful collegiate career, he entered the NFL when he was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1980 Draft.
Drake's professional career spanned over a decade, during which he played for several teams, including the Steelers, the New York Giants, and the Atlanta Falcons. He is best known for his skills as a wide receiver and special teams player, contributing to his teams with crucial catches and solid performances.
