Biography
Darryl Stingley, born on September 18, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois, was an American football wide receiver who played in the National Football League (NFL) primarily for the New England Patriots. He played college football at Purdue University, where he gained recognition for his speed and reliable hands. Stingley was selected by the Patriots in the first round of the 1973 NFL Draft, marking the beginning of a promising professional career.
Throughout his time with the Patriots from 1973 to 1977, Stingley established himself as a talented receiver, contributing significantly to the team's offense. He had his most productive season in 1974, recording 60 receptions for 1,004 yards and creating a legacy as one of the franchise's early stars. Stingley's career was tragically cut short due to a life-altering injury sustained during a game against the Oakland Raiders in 1978, which left him paralyzed from the neck down.
Despite the severity of his injury, Stingley remained an inspirational figure, advocating for spinal cord injury research and support for individuals with disabilities.
