Biography
Dave Shula, born on May 28, 1959, in Portsmouth, Ohio, is a former professional American football player and coach. He played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) after being selected in the 12th round of the 1981 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Colts. Over his four-season playing career, Shula played for the Colts and the New Orleans Saints, accumulating a total of 32 receptions for 466 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Transitioning from player to coach, Shula began his coaching career in the NFL in the late 1980s, notably serving as the head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals from 1992 to 1996. During his tenure, he led the team to a combined record of 19-52, but made significant contributions to player development and team strategy, which helped shape the future of the franchise. Although his head coaching record was less than favorable, Shula's coaching experience and insights were well-regarded within the league.
