Biography
Dave Wannstedt, born on May 21, 1952, in Baldwin, Pennsylvania, is a former American football coach and player. After a standout high school career, he went on to play college football at the University of Pittsburgh, where he was a linebacker and helped lead the Panthers to a national championship in 1976. He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the third round of the 1974 NFL Draft, beginning a professional playing career that lasted until 1976.
Wannstedt transitioned from player to coach shortly after his NFL career, starting as a graduate assistant at the University of Pittsburgh and moving on to various coaching positions in college and the NFL. He became the head coach of the Chicago Bears in 1993, where he guided the team to the playoffs in 1994. He later served as head coach of the Miami Dolphins from 2000 to 2004, further solidifying his reputation as a respected leader in football.
In addition to his coaching roles, Wannstedt contributed to football as a television analyst, providing insights and commentary on the sport.
