Derek Cormier, born on February 27, 1973, in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, is a retired professional ice hockey player known for his defensive skills and leadership on the ice. Drafted in the fifth round, 115th overall, by the New Jersey Devils in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft, Cormier originally played at the junior level with the St. John’s Maple Leafs and the Fredericton Canadiens, showcasing his potential as a reliable defenseman.
