Biography
Dolph Schayes, born on May 19, 1928, in New York City, was an American professional basketball player and coach renowned for his contributions to the sport. A standout athlete at Niagara University, he was selected in the first round of the 1948 NBA Draft by the Syracuse Nationals. Schayes quickly established himself as one of the league's premier forwards, earning multiple All-Star selections throughout his career.
Over his 16 seasons in the NBA, Schayes became a dominant force, noted for his exceptional shooting, rebounding, and versatility on the court. He led the Nationals to an NBA championship in 1955 and was named an All-NBA First Team player several times. Schayes also played a pivotal role in popularizing the jump shot, a technique that would become integral to the game.
After retiring as a player in 1964, Schayes transitioned to coaching, taking the helm of the Philadelphia 76ers and later the New Jersey Nets.
