Edward Butkus, born December 9, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, is a former professional American football linebacker recognized as one of the greatest players in NFL history. After an illustrious collegiate career at the University of Illinois, where he earned consensus All-American honors, Butkus was selected in the second round of the 1965 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, his hometown team.
During his tenure with the Bears from 1965 to 1973, Butkus was known for his fierce playing style and tactical acumen on the field. He was a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and earned eight Pro Bowl selections, along with four First-team All-Pro selections.
