Biography
Elvin Bethea, born on March 1, 1946, is a former professional American football player who made significant contributions as a defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected in the 1968 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers, where he would spend his entire 14-year career. Bethea quickly established himself as a key player, earning recognition for his exceptional skills on the field and his leadership in the locker room.
Throughout his career, Bethea was a three-time Pro Bowl selection (1969, 1971, and 1973) and was named to the First-Team All-Pro twice (1971 and 1975). He played a pivotal role in the Oilers’ success during the early 1970s, particularly in leading the team to six playoff appearances. His impressive performance also landed him a spot on the NFL's 1970s All-Decade Team, underscoring his impact during that era of football.
