Biography
Emmitt Thomas, born on June 3, 1943, is a former professional American football cornerback who played in the National Football League (NFL). He was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 10th round of the 1966 NFL Draft out of Washburn University. Over the course of his 13-year playing career, Thomas became renowned for his exceptional coverage skills and playmaking ability, contributing significantly to the Chiefs’ defense.
Thomas is best known for his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he played from 1966 to 1978. He was selected to the Pro Bowl three times and was named a First-Team All-Pro in 1974. His most notable achievement came during Super Bowl IV in 1970, where he played a pivotal role in helping the Chiefs secure their first championship by defeating the Minnesota Vikings.
Following his retirement as a player, Emmitt Thomas transitioned into coaching, where he left a lasting impact on the game. He served as a defensive backs coach for various NFL teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, where he was part of the coaching staff that led the team to a Super Bowl appearance. Thomas was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008, solidifying his legacy as one of the greatest cornerbacks in NFL history.
