Biography
Eric LeGrand, born on September 4, 1990, in Avenel, New Jersey, is a former American football player known for his tenure as a defensive tackle at Rutgers University. During his college career from 2009 to 2010, he was recognized for his exceptional skills on the field, contributing to the team's defensive strategies and earning accolades for his performance. LeGrand went undrafted in the 2011 NFL Draft but maintained aspirations to play professionally.
Tragically, in October 2010, LeGrand suffered a severe spinal cord injury during a game against Army, resulting in paralysis from the neck down. Despite the life-altering injury, he became an inspirational figure, demonstrating resilience and determination. His story garnered national attention, and he became an advocate for individuals with disabilities, raising awareness and funds for spinal cord research.
LeGrand's legacy extends beyond his athletic career, as he has authored a memoir, "Believe: My Faith and the Tackle that Changed My Life," which highlights his journey and the importance of perseverance.
