Ernest Raikes was born on November 18, 1863, in Leek, Staffordshire, England. He was a prominent cricketer known for his right-arm fast bowling and left-handed batting. Raikes made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in 1882, quickly establishing himself as a talented all-rounder in the domestic cricket circuit.
Throughout his career, Raikes played 123 first-class matches, amassing over 2,600 runs and taking more than 280 wickets. His notable performances included several match-winning spells that helped his team secure crucial victories. Raikes was also a key figure in the 1889 match against Yorkshire, where he took seven wickets, showcasing his exceptional bowling prowess.
