Ernie Terrell, born on April 4, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, was an American professional boxer who gained prominence in the 1960s. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches tall, Terrell was known for his significant height in the heavyweight division, which he used to his advantage throughout his career. He began boxing professionally in 1958 and quickly established himself as a formidable contender.
Terrell’s most notable achievement came on November 14, 1965, when he won the WBA heavyweight title by defeating Eddie Machen. He successfully defended his championship against several top contenders, including Henry Cooper and George Chuvalo. However, his reign came to an end after losing to Muhammad Ali on February 6, 1967, in a highly publicized bout marked by their contrasting styles and longstanding rivalry.
Following his boxing career, Terrell transitioned into entertainment, appearing in various television shows and films.
