Biography
Frank Gatski (March 18, 1921 – April 2, 2005) was an American professional football player who gained recognition as a center in the National Football League (NFL). Born in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, Gatski attended the University of Buffalo, where he showcased his athletic abilities and laid the foundation for his future career. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 1944 NFL Draft.
Gatski played a pivotal role in the Cleveland Browns' success from 1946 to 1956, contributing to the team’s multiple championships during the early years of the franchise. His exceptional skill set and leadership on the offensive line earned him a selection to the Pro Bowl multiple times, highlighting his status as one of the premier centers of his era. In 1950, he was named to the NFL All-Pro team, further underscoring his impact on the field.
After retiring from professional football, Gatski's legacy continued through his influence on the game and the players who followed in his footsteps. He was recognized for his contributions to the sport, earning induction into the Ohio Sports Hall of Fame in 1989.
