Fred Young is a former professional basketball player known for his versatility as a forward during his athletic career in the 1980s and 1990s. Born on January 12, 1962, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, he distinguished himself as a standout player at both the high school and collegiate levels. Young played college basketball at the University of Oregon, where he earned All-Pac-10 honors and helped lead the Ducks to an NCAA tournament appearance.
In 1984, Young was selected in the second round of the NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers. His professional career spanned six seasons in the NBA, where he played for the Clippers, as well as the New Jersey Nets and the Atlanta Hawks. Young was known for his ability to score and rebound, averaging a career total of 8.9 points and 5.5 rebounds per game during his time in the league.
Following his retirement from professional basketball, Young’s impact on the game continued through coaching and mentoring young athletes.
