Biography
Gail Cogdill, born on April 7, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, was a prominent American football wide receiver who played in the National Football League (NFL) during the 1960s. He was a standout at the University of Washington, earning All-American honors before being selected by the Detroit Lions in the second round of the 1959 NFL Draft. Throughout his career, Cogdill was known for his exceptional speed and reliable hands, establishing himself as a key component of the Lions’ offense.
Cogdill played for the Detroit Lions from 1959 to 1964 and later for the Washington Redskins from 1965 to 1967. He was a key contributor to the Lions' successful playoff runs, most notably helping the team win the NFL Championship in 1962. Over his eight-season career, he recorded significant receiving yards and touchdowns, earning respect and recognition among his peers for his competitive spirit and athleticism.
After retiring from professional football, Cogdill's impact on the sport continued as he remained involved in various community initiatives.
