Gail Goodrich is a former professional basketball player born on April 23, 1943, in Los Angeles, California. A standout guard, Goodrich played college basketball at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was instrumental in the Bruins' success during the mid-1960s. He was part of the UCLA team that won the NCAA Championship in 1964 and was recognized for his scoring ability and playmaking skills.

Goodrich was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers as the third overall pick in the 1965 NBA Draft. Over his six-season NBA career, he played primarily for the Lakers, where he became known for his scoring prowess, averaging 12.4 points per game in the 1966-67 season and achieving a career-high of 13.8 points per game in the 1967-68 season. He contributed to the Lakers' success and was part of the team that reached the NBA Finals in 1969.

Following his playing career, Goodrich became a successful businessman and served as a prominent figure in basketball coaching and sports commentary. His contributions to the game were recognized through his induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996.
