Gene Thodes is a retired professional basketball player known for his impactful career in the sport during the 1980s and early 1990s. Born on March 15, 1963, in Los Angeles, California, Thodes played college basketball at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he was known for his exceptional shooting ability and defensive skills. He gained national attention after leading his team to the NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen in 1984.

Thodes was selected as the 23rd overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. Over the course of his seven-season career in the National Basketball Association (NBA), he played for the Celtics, alongside other prominent teams including the New Jersey Nets and the Chicago Bulls. Thodes achieved significant success, including a notable NBA championship with the Celtics in 1986, and was selected to participate in the NBA All-Star Game in 1988.
