George Mikan, born on June 18, 1924, in Joliet, Illinois, was an American professional basketball player widely regarded as one of the sport's first dominant big men. Standing at 6 feet 10 inches, Mikan played college basketball at DePaul University, where he earned All-American honors. He began his professional career in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which later merged with the National Basketball Association (NBA), playing primarily for the Chicago American Gears and the Minneapolis Lakers.
Mikan's career was marked by remarkable achievements, including leading the Minneapolis Lakers to five championships between 1949 and 1954.
