George Preas was born on June 25, 1933, in the United States. He attended the University of Virginia, where he played college football and distinguished himself as a talented center. Preas was selected in the 1953 NFL Draft, going in the 6th round to the Detroit Lions, showcasing his potential as a professional athlete.
Throughout his NFL career, which spanned from 1953 to 1963, Preas played predominantly for the Lions and later the Philadelphia Eagles. He was known for his exceptional skills in the snapping game, contributing to his teams' offensive lines and bolstering their strategic plays. Preas’ greatest achievement came in 1957 when he was part of the Lions team that won the NFL Championship, solidifying his reputation within the league.
