Gheorghe Mureșan, born on February 14, 1971, in Tritenii de Jos, Romania, is a retired professional basketball player known for his exceptional height of 7 feet 7 inches (231 cm), making him one of the tallest players in NBA history. He began his basketball career in Romania, where he played for the local club Universitatea Cluj. Mureșan's talent was recognized when he moved to the United States to play college basketball at Georgetown University under coach John Thompson, where he became a dominant force in the NCAA.
Mureșan was selected by the Washington Bullets as the 30th overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. Throughout his NBA career, which lasted until 2000, he also played for the New Jersey Nets. His most notable accomplishments include being named the NBA's Most Improved Player for the 1995-96 season, where he averaged 14.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game, and helping the Bullets reach the playoffs in 1997.
