Hanif Mohammad, born on October 21, 1934, in Karachi, British India, was a prominent Pakistani cricketer and a legendary opening batsman known for his technical prowess and resilience. He made his first-class debut at the age of 16 and quickly rose through the ranks, eventually representing the Pakistan national team when it was created in 1952. Hanif's career spanned two decades, during which he became renowned for his remarkable concentration and ability to play long innings.
One of Hanif Mohammad's most significant achievements came during the 1958-59 series against the West Indies, where he scored a historic 337 runs in a single innings, which was, at that time, the highest score in Test cricket. Over his career, he accumulated 3,874 runs in Test matches, including 12 centuries and 15 fifties, establishing himself as one of the leading batsmen of his era. His batting style was characterized by its elegance, and he is often remembered for his ability to defend dourly while also building his innings meticulously.
