Hugh McElhenny, born on December 31, 1928, in Los Angeles, California, was a prominent professional football player who excelled as a halfback in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at the University of Washington, where he showcased his remarkable speed and versatility. McElhenny was selected in the first round of the 1952 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, marking the beginning of a distinguished career in professional football.
During his time with the 49ers from 1952 to 1960, McElhenny established himself as one of the league's most dynamic offensive players, earning six Pro Bowl selections and being named an All-Pro three times. Known for his electrifying playing style, he amassed over 8,000 total yards and scored 61 touchdowns, contributing significantly to the 49ers' success in the 1950s. Following his tenure with San Francisco, he played for the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants before retiring in 1964.
