He played as a right-handed batsman and occasional leg-spin bowler, representing India in 5 Test matches from 1932 to 1936. Pataudi was noted for his elegant batting style and his ability to play against top-tier bowling attacks during the pre-independence era.
As a member of the Indian national cricket team, Pataudi made his Test debut against England in 1932 during India's inaugural Test series.
