Biography
Jack Del Rio, born on April 4, 1963, in Castro Valley, California, is a former professional American football player and coach. He played college football at the University of Southern California, where he earned All-American honors as a linebacker. Del Rio was selected in the third round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints and went on to have a successful playing career, also representing the Kansas City Chiefs and the Dallas Cowboys before retiring in 1996.
Transitioning from player to coach, Del Rio began his coaching career in the late 1990s and made a significant impact in the NFL. He served as the defensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers, where he helped the team reach Super Bowl XXXVIII, and later held the same position for the Chicago Bears. Del Rio achieved further recognition when he became the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2003 to 2011, guiding the team to multiple playoff appearances and establishing a reputation for his strong defensive strategies.
Del Rio later took the helm as head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 2015 to 2017, reviving a franchise that had struggled in previous years.
