Jacques Plante was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender, born on January 17, 1929, in Shawinigan, Quebec. He played in the National Hockey League (NHL) from 1947 to 1975, becoming one of the first goaltenders to adopt a style that emphasized mobility and puck-handling. Plante is best known for his time with the Montreal Canadiens, where he won six Stanley Cup championships during the 1950s and 1960s.
