Biography
Jay Woodcroft is a Canadian ice hockey coach and former professional player born on August 11, 1976. Woodcroft played as a center and enjoyed a notable junior career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Detroit Junior Red Wings before being drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. He spent several seasons playing in various minor leagues, including the International Hockey League (IHL) and the American Hockey League (AHL), where he amassed over 200 points during his playing tenure.
Transitioning to coaching after retiring as a player, Woodcroft began his coaching career in the AHL. He gained prominence as the head coach of the Bakersfield Condors, where he led the team to significant success and captured the AHL’s Pacific Division title. His leadership and innovative coaching strategies earned him a promotion to the NHL, where he served as an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers, helping to refine the skills of many elite players.
