Jayananda Warnaweera, born on November 23, 1960, in Sri Lanka, is a former cricketer who made significant contributions to the sport during the late 1980s and early 1990s. A right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm off-spin bowler, Warnaweera represented Sri Lanka in 12 One Day Internationals (ODIs) between 1982 and 1983. He was part of the pioneering squad that propelled Sri Lankan cricket onto the international stage.
Warnaweera was known for his competitive spirit and versatility, which saw him feature in key matches during the early phases of Sri Lanka's cricketing journey. His performances in ODIs, although limited, helped set the foundation for the country's growing cricketing prowess, which would eventually culminate in their 1996 Cricket World Cup victory.
