Jayne Appel was born on May 14, 1988, in Pleasanton, California. She gained recognition as a standout basketball player at the University of Stanford, where she played from 2006 to 2011. During her collegiate career, Appel was a key contributor to the Cardinal's success, helping the team reach the NCAA Final Four in 2008 and 2009 and earning several All-American honors.
After leaving college, Appel was selected as the 5th overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft by the San Antonio Silver Stars.
