Biography
Jeff Capel III, born on February 12, 1975, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, is a former professional basketball player and current college basketball coach. He played high school basketball at Oak Hill Academy, where he gained national attention for his skills on the court. Capel went on to play for the University of Oklahoma, where he had a standout collegiate career, becoming one of the top players in the Big 12 Conference.
Following his college career, Capel was selected in the second round of the 1997 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. He played for several teams in the NBA, including the 76ers, as well as stints in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) and overseas, further expanding his experience in professional basketball. After retiring from playing, Capel shifted his focus to coaching, ultimately serving as an assistant coach at various programs, including the University of Oklahoma.
In 2018, Capel was named head coach of the University of Pittsburgh men's basketball team, where he has worked to rebuild the program's competitiveness in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). His coaching style emphasizes player development and defensive discipline, and he has been credited with revitalizing interest in Pitt basketball. With a legacy that spans both playing and coaching, Capel continues to impact the sport at the collegiate level.
