Biography
Jerry Richardson (born July 11, 1936) is a former professional American football player who played as a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL). He attended Wofford College, where he was a standout player, earning All-American honors before being drafted by the Baltimore Colts in the 13th round of the 1958 NFL Draft. Richardson played for the Colts from 1959 to 1960, contributing to the team’s success during his tenure.
After retiring as a player, Richardson transitioned into management, eventually becoming the owner of the Carolina Panthers, which he established in 1993. Under his leadership, the franchise saw significant growth and success, including multiple playoff appearances and a trip to Super Bowl XXXVIII in 2004. Richardson was instrumental in bringing professional football to Charlotte, North Carolina, and his contributions to the NFL were recognized with his induction into the South Carolina Athletic Hall of Fame.
Richardson's impact extends beyond his playing career as he was also noted for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in support of local communities through various charitable initiatives.
